Mission Statement

To respond with compassion and respect to request from chronically ill and elderly senior citizens who need help with ordinary chores in order to maintain their self-esteem and independence.

Good Samaritan Saturday: October 4, 2008

Twice a year, the first Saturday in May and October, Sherwood Faith in Action Program hosts Good Samaritan Saturday. Registered program volunteers join with additional Good Samaritans from Sherwood area churches and community agencies to provide spring clean up chores for Sherwood and southwest Washington County seniors. Volunteers come from Countryside Community Church, St. Francis Catholic Church, St. Paul Lutheran Church, Sherwood United Methodist Church, the Sherwood Spiritual Community of the Baha'i, Sherwood Community Friends Church, Willowbrook Free Methodist Church and Prudential Northwest Properties. The Sherwood YMCA also sends a team of youth volunteers to serve the senior needs.

After a hearty breakfast at the Sherwood Senior Center, the volunteers will move out to Tualatin, King City, Tigard, and Sherwood to clean gutters, trim hedges, weed gardens, plant flowers, and wash dozens of windows.

So far this year over 65 senior citizens requested assistance for end-of-season chores they find difficult to accomplish without assistance.

A friendly alliance of local Sherwood churches, faith communities, and community agencies continue to support the operational structure of Faith in Action, the Sherwood interfaith volunteer program, now in its seventh year of operation.

Please mark your calendars and join us for the Fall Good Samaritan Saturday, October 4, 2008.
